Some couples just work well together. That’s certainly true for Sid and Sheryl, who spent the early years of their marriage milking cows side by side on their family’s small dairy farm. Together, they raised four kids and tended their land with grit, faith, and a shared love for agriculture.

But like many family farms, theirs eventually became unsustainable. They made the painful decision to sell and stepped away from full-time farming.

What followed

Years of Sacrifice

Sid took a role in IT at a grain elevator and later at local medical center. Sheryl became a school counselor, helping at-risk students find their footing. To stay connected to the ag world they loved, they began selling ag chemical on the side—together. While both their 9–5 careers and their side business were meaningful, it still wasn’t the same. The demands of life had pulled them in different directions, away from the rhythm of working the land together.

But the dream never faded.
